In May 2000, the McDonald's Corporation purchased the majority of assets of Boston Market restaurants. The $173.5 million deal included 751 restaurants, franchise rights for an additional 108 restaurants and certain related liabilities.
Buying Boston Market has so far
been
McDonald’s biggest acquisition.
Jack M. Greenberg, McDonald's Corporation Chairman and
CEO even noted that Boston Market was a well-established
brand with remarkable employees, good products, devoted
customers, and a promising future. However, it wasn’t
exactly Boston Market’s brand that fully convinced the
McDonald’s, it was the real
estate that made the difference.
The majority of the Boston Market locations are in highly
attractive places, which is fitting for the ongoing
expansion for McDonald's. They can convert these sites to
either McDonald’s restaurants or other brands owned by
McDonald’s such as their Golden Restaurant Operations
Restaurants, Donatos Pizza, and
Chipotle Mexican
Grill. The Boston Market restaurants can be found in
over thirty states, mostly being in the East and
Midwest. The possibilities for Boston Market spaces are
endless.
